The presentation touches on two topics at the core of diversity, equity, and inclusion—intersectionality and culture—and their relevance to the individual’s identity. Employers and educators need to understand identity from a view that is inclusive of the different identity dimensions. The presentation introduces the attendees to the concepts of culture and intersectionality via scholarly definitions, educating videos, and interactive activities. The attendees will participate in a live group survey to examine intersectionality within the attendee’s group, followed by an“I-Statement” activity that will teach the attendees to be more understanding, empathetic, and conscious about their communication with others.
Following this program, you will be able to:
- Develop a basic understanding of culture, worldviews, and intersectionality;
- Apply intersectionality practices that can be used to promote students' success inside and outside the classroom; and
- Demonstrate conflict resolution strategies within intercultural interactions.
