  Just when we thought there would be some settling into a new normal, the last several months have proven to be some of the most challenging in recent memory.

  Staffing challenges brought upon by the Great Resignation, increased hiring demands from businesses growing, a decline in student attendance at career fairs, and many other trends have caused a rethinking of our resources and business models.

  Our panelists will address how the recruitment cycle has gone for them recently, what challenges they are facing, and how they are tackling the issues. We will explore the impact the Great Resignation is having on the labor market and workforce needs; how this is impacting diversity and inclusion efforts, career services operations, college recruiting strategies, and student/candidate engagement; and we’ll also take a look at what is happening with virtual recruiting.

  Joseph Testani , Assistant Dean & Executive Director, University of Rochester - The Gwen M. Greene Center for Career Education and Connections

  Joseph A. Testani, M.S. (j.testani@rochester.edu) Joe currently serves as the Associate Vice Provost for Career Education Initiatives and the Executive Director for the Greene Center for Career Education at the University of Rochester. With over 20 years of career services and student engagement experience in diverse institutional settings, Joe has been recognized for his leadership and strategic planning at the departmental, institutional, and national level. He currently leads a team of 21 staff and a career ecosystem spanning six schools and 12,000 students in a re-envisioned effort to prepare students for the future of work. He holds degrees from Nassau Community College, Binghamton University, and Indiana University – Bloomington and was awarded the Fulbright International Education Administrators Program in Germany in 2014.   Shawn VanDerziel , President & Chief Executive Officer, NACE

  As president and chief executive officer of the National Association of Colleges and Employers, Shawn VanDerziel leads the association of 16,000 college career services professionals, university relations and recruiting professionals, and business solution providers that serve the community. As a leading voice on the employment of the college educated and advocate for equitable outcomes for all students, VanDerziel is featured regularly as an industry expert and is a sought-after speaker on a range of topics, including internships, hiring, career readiness, and trends in the workforce and college job market. Prior to joining the NACE staff, VanDerziel was with the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago for 23 years, where he most recently served as chief human resources officer and as chief of staff. His earlier roles included corporate recruiting with Norrell Corporation and a position in higher education as associate director of student enrollment at National Louis University.

  

  Maya Faries , TA Early Career Program/Diversity, [ARCHIVES]

  Maya Faries is a senior manager in talent acquisition at Verizon. After earning her M.B.A./M.A. in communication from Andrews University, she entered the HR world to explore her passion for business and working with people. Her current responsibilities include managing Verizon's internship program and experience team, as well as Verizon's campus diversity team. In addition to her primary job functions, she was recognized by Ripplematch in 2021 as a nominee for their Campus Recruiting Exceptional Leader award for leading fearlessly. She has a passion for DE&I initiatives in the campus space.

  

  Angela Hanks , Acting Asst Sec'y, Empl & Training, [ARCHIVES]

  Angela Hanks is the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary and Acting Assistant Secretary of the Employment and Training Administration within the U.S. Department of Labor. In that role, she helps oversee many of the department’s employment, unemployment insurance, and training programs, and works to ensure those programs' investments advance the Biden-Harris Administration’s workforce development, job quality, and equity goals. She previously served as a counselor to the U.S. Secretary of Labor.

  

  Ingrid Giordano , Director, Citi

  Ingrid Giordano is director of university relations, campus diversity, and campus marketing for Citi. She collaborates across the firm on key initiatives, including graduate recruitment at multiple colleges and universities, early engagement, campus diversity partnerships, talent attraction, and program management for early career programs. Giordano works with a team that manages efforts at all levels of the college experience, developing bespoke programming and experiences for students. She began with Citi in the late 1990s; previous roles there include program manager, recruiting manager, entry training head, and learning and development relationship manager. Prior to joining Citi, she served as a client manager at Johnson & Higgins and as an instruction manager at Prudential Securities. Her with NACE includes serving as co-chair on the 2019-20 and 2020-21 People of Color Affinity Impact Team and as a member of the 2019-2020 Inclusion, Equity, and Affinity Committee. She also contributed as a panel member during the 2020 NACE Connect virtual experience and as a mentor for the NACE Mentor Program. Ingrid is on the 2022-2023 NACE Board of Directors. She holds a bachelor's of business administration from Pace University.
