    • Summary

      When a young person decides to volunteer to join the U.S. military, they often do not consider the economic impact that decision brings to their future, but those who serve an enlistment of six years right after high school may take up to 17 years to catch up to their peers economically. The transition out of military service through higher education is one of the most important tools in closing that economic gap, but there are other measures that can ensure that those who wear our nation’s uniform do not fall behind.

      Join two experts on veterans in higher education as they describe the benefits, challenges, and strategies of college internships in ensuring the economic success of veterans. Participants will glean the most recent data describing this population of students and hear case studies on the outcomes and impacts of student veteran internships.

      Following this program, you will be able to:

      • Analyze case studies used to support the development of student veterans who may face economic challenges and other roadblocks;
      • Leverage data and research presented to achieve greater outcomes related to the success of student veterans and veteran internship experiences; and
      • Use information presented to implement best practices and gain immediate take-aways that support and promote key understanding of the content.
