    • Summary

With the end of the fall 2020 semester soon approaching and late November marking the transition to virtual for a majority of campuses for the remainder of the semester, the successes and challenges each college and employer experienced can now be better understood. Employers that implemented new and innovative approaches to engaging candidates have a better sense about which candidate engagement experiences proved most effective in attracting talent to their employment brand. The same is true for career services relative to the most effective student engagement practices for supporting student success and career readiness. With the spring 2021 semester just around the corner, it is critical for all of us to glean insights from the realities and experiences of fall 2020 as we plan for spring 2021 and beyond.

Following this program, you will be able to:

      • Hear about the successes and challenges employers experienced in engaging candidates—including students from diverse backgrounds, first-generation students, international students, and others—in alignment with their hiring goals. What engagement practices work best in the virtual space? What changes will be made in preparation for spring 2021?
      • Find out which student engagement strategies and practices have proven to be most effective in supporting students in career development, career readiness, and job-search experiences and programs. Explore the recruiting landscape for spring 2021, based on lessons learned. What adjustments will be made by employers and career services to enhance student engagement?
      • Look ahead to summer 2021 to consider the internship landscape: Will internships be virtual or in person? What form will internships take in terms of length, content, and opportunities for hands-on learning? How can access to paid internships be improved for marginalized students?
