Spotlight for Recruiting Professionals
Diversity recruiting continues to be a core element of overall college recruiting programs, as 70.9 percent of employers responding to NACE's 2015 Recruiting Benchmarks Survey.
Not surprisingly, formal diversity recruiting programs are more common among larger employers (more than 10,000 employees) than among smaller organizations (fewer than 2,500 employees). In this survey, 86.2 percent of large employers reported having a formal diversity recruiting program in place, compared to 63.6 percent of small employers.
In addition, formal diversity recruiting efforts are more common in the Northeast (77.6 percent) than they are in the South (63.8 percent).
Employers with formal diversity recruiting efforts targeted women, African-Americans, and Hispanic-Americans as their highest priorities. (See Figure 1.)
Sixty-seven percent of employers with a formal diversity recruiting effort used specific types of schools and organizations to recruit these candidates. Historically black colleges and universities are by far the most widely used source of candidates, followed by Hispanic-service institutions and INROADS. (See Figure 2.)
The 2015 Recruiting Benchmarks Survey was conducted from May 18, 2015, to July 31, 2015, among NACE employer members; 255, or 26.2 percent, responded.
