    • Summary

      The responsibilities of a career services leaders tend to be less structured and undefined than more entry-level roles. Our most important work, such as strategic planning, supervision, professional development, and managing long-term projects, requires a different approach to productivity. This session compiles content from five of the most popular books on productivity—Getting Things Done (Allen, 2015), indistractable (Eyal, 2019), Habits (Duhigg, 2014), Eat That Frog (Tracy, 2017), and Deep Work (Newport, 2016)—and applies them to the role of a career services leader. Attendees will learn about unhealthy work habits, mindsets, and strategies to get organized, reduce distraction, and increase productivity, with the ultimate goal of improving well-being.

      Following this program, you will be able to:

      • Identify how unhealthy work habits and mindsets manifest for career services leaders and affect your productivity;
      • Create a personal management system that includes strategies for capturing your ideas, planning your work, creating your to-do list, controlling your email, and managing your day/week; and
      • Generate strategies to manage (internal and external) distraction and build long-term, healthy habits and mindsets that support well-being.
