NACE Leaders Discuss STEM OPT, HEA, Career Readiness in D.C.

Patricia Carretta, chair of the NACE Advocacy Advisory Committee, and Ed Koc, director of research, public policy, and legislative affairs, met with representatives from NAFSA and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AACSU) in Washington, D.C., on January 20, 2016.

Carretta, Koc, and Heather Stewart, NAFSA director of immigration policy, discussed pending legislation related to OPT and how that affects international students studying STEM disciplines here in the United States. The two associations, along with eight others, recently provided comments to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in support of proposed changes to rules for OPT.

At AACSU, Carretta and Koc met with Barnak Nassirian, director of federal relations and policy analysis, to discuss career readiness as well as reauthorization of the Higher Education Act.
