  • NACE Position Statement: Executive Order - Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into the United States

The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) opposes the executive order “Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States.” The discriminatory ban contradicts the principles that NACE has strongly supported, and violates the best traditions of America’s democracy.

NACE has consistently emphasized its commitment to the value of inclusiveness for both its college and employer members. This commitment extends not only to the diverse community that is the United States but also to the international students who travel to this country in order to extend their knowledge and improve their lives. American colleges and American companies have profited from the insights and innovations brought by individuals entering the United States from all corners of the globe.

The executive order issued by President Trump imposing a 90-day ban on immigrant and non-immigrant entry into the United States from seven Muslim nations causes NACE deep concern on many levels. The executive order will impose a hardship not only on the many international students currently studying at American universities but also on the employers who recruit these students for their work force. The order will have a chilling impact on America’s interaction with other nations, including those not directly affected by the ban.

We encourage members to connect with their government affairs or corporate counsels to obtain information about the position their organizations have taken.
