On July 5, 2020, U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced that international students who were enrolled in an institution that has chosen to offer its classes exclusively online in the fall would either have to transfer to another college or university would face losing their visa status.
In response, NACE released a position statement and, in concert with nearly 100 higher education associations and organizations, sent a letter to acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf. The letter outlines the rationale behind the opposition to ICE’s guidance, asks that the administration reconsider its position, and requests that the administration provide colleges and universities with the flexibility they need to determine how to best operate to ensure the safety and security of their students and communities.
