A final rule issued by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) on January 3, 2017, will require federal agencies to take steps to increase the number and percentage of employees with disabilities in their work forces. The final rule will go into effect in January 2018.

According to the EEOC, the final rule requires agencies of the federal government to:

    • Adopt employment goals for individuals with disabilities, with sub-goals for individuals with targeted disabilities.
    • Provide personal assistance services to certain employees who need them because of a disability.
    • Meet a number of other requirements designed to improve the recruitment, hiring, retention, and advancement of individuals with disabilities in the federal work force.

For more information, see the final rule or FAQs about it.
