    Spotlight for Career Services Professionals

Sometimes questions in the NACE Community are answered with short, information-rich responses. Here are a few of those questions and the answers they received:

Help! A student wants to shake hands at an interview, but says his hands are too sweaty.

    • Apply an aluminum-based anti-perspirant to dry palms the night before the interview.
    • Fill a small water bottle with tepid water and wrap in a paper napkin. Hold the bottle in your right hand up until time to shake hands. Put the bottle down. Shake.
    • Squirt on a tiny bit of hand sanitizer to dry skin.

Is there a good way to identify alumni working at a career fair?
Alumni who self-identify before career fairs at California State University – Fresno wear red alumni ribbons attached to their name badges.

I’m looking for resources for students with disabilities.

    • Every state has an office that specializes in career development and employment services for people with disabilities. They receive funding from the federal government under the Rehabilitation Services Administration or RSA.
    • Job Accommodation Network (JAN) has a searchable database where you can input disabilities or limitations and receive more information, resources, and accommodation suggestions.

Please recommend some good books for the job search/internships.
