Career Pathways for our Profession

Committee Description:
Supporting student development and having an impact on their careers. We do it in Career Services and in University Recruiting and the work we do each and every day has the power to impact the future of our organizations and the students we serve/develop/employ. Now it’s time to map out the career paths for our professions to demonstrate the growth & development within our career tracks.
Goals:
The Committee will work to ensure outcomes in support of the NACE Strategic Plan with a focus on the following goals: 1. Increase and retain a diversified membership and create opportunities to engage and build professional networks. 2. Advance the body of knowledge, set standards, and cultivate professional acumen. 3. Serve as the leading source of research, data, and content. 4. Advocate as the leading voice for the profession and serve as the authority on related public policy.
Committee Charge(s):
The Career Pathways for our Profession Task Force will articulate the job architecture by which members of our profession are organized and will include characteristics like job titles, levels and typical responsibilities. You will articulate the longer-term view on potential avenues and developmental opportunities that exist – proving that one does not need to leave the profession to grow and develop. The task force will leverage both NACE and external research to outline a career ‘Map’ for both Career Center and UR&R professionals. The outline will reflect applicable roles in each functional area, along with identifying how to move up or laterally to a new track (individual contributor vs leader) or into new pathway (Career Center to UR&R or vice versa) and necessary competencies to get there.
Timeframe:
7/1/2023 to 6/30/2024
• Task Force work will kick off August 2023 and continue through June 2024 • Plan to actively participate in conference calls throughout the year
Deliverables Expected:
• Create a sustainable inventory of roles for each of NACE’s member profiles (Employer / Higher Education). This includes titles, competencies needed, and brief descriptions. • Create easy ‘at a glance’ infographic to illustrate potential roles for each member profile, along with any crossover opportunities. • Provide suggestions and examples of the types of professional development activities and resources needed to fulfill and continue to grow with each / at each developmental stage. i.e., personal growth purposes – what types of webinars, courses, articles, podcast, etc., would be valuable for a person / member to engage in to demonstrate proficiency in said competency • Facilitate conference workshop to showcase task force’s deliverables. • Develop a case statement for how/why UR&R is a long-term career worth pursuing.
Skills Required:
• Bring your passion for our profession, by building the architecture of our next generation! • Think about all possible roles, structures, and intersections! Skills, experiences, etc. • Experience in either Career Services and / or URR – a variety of levels preferred to balance perspective of taskforce! • Desire to grow, develop and retain talented individuals within our professions! • Any experience with career frameworks is a plus!
