Senators Richard Durbin (D-Ill) and Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) are working on a bill that would extend legal status for DREAMERs, previously undocumented immigrants who came to the Unites States as children and meet requirements of the Development, Relief, and Education for Minors Act.

The new bill would extend the legal protections and benefits afforded in a 2012 directive from President Barack Obama. There is concern that the new administration could use the personal information provided by DREAMERs to deport them.

The Senators hope to have the legislation ready before the new Congress is sworn in and President-elect Donald Trump takes office in January 2017.
