      Unit One: Introduction to the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership

      Begin your journey into leadership development through exploration of the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership. In this interactive session, the focus is on you. Participants will develop their understanding of leadership as an observable set of skills and articulate how the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership significantly impacts their organization and team to positively increase commitment, engagement, and performance.

      Following this session, you will be able to:

      • Examine the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership; 
      • Explore a leadership framework to increase positive outcomes for your team and organization; and
      • Describe the impact of leadership in reaching organizational goals.

      Unit Two: Walk This Way (Model the Way)

      “Walk This Way” is a behavior employed by exemplary leaders, whereby they set the example.  It’s a commitment beyond their behavior at their organizations—it’s how they live their lives, fundamental to their core, and consistent with their personal values.

      In this model, leaders will examine a framework to successfully lead others to “Walk This Way.”  Through case study scenarios, videos, and interactive exercises, leaders will explore strategies to develop a leadership mindset, lead others using transformational leadership skills, and set and mirror expected behaviors.

      Following this session, you will be able to:

      • Explore strategies to build a strong organizational culture through leadership credibility and communication;
      • Recognize how to be a competent leader who acts as a visionary with a focus on leading for the future;
      • Examine methods to inspire others and lead by example; and
      • Identify opportunities to align actions as leaders with shared values of the organizations.

      Unit Three: Cultivating a Culture of Innovation (Inspire a Shared Vision)

      The essence of being an effective leader entails inspiring others to do more, to be more, and to take themselves and the organization to the next level of performance and achievement. Innovation is one of the most critical elements of success as a leader; the ability to create an environment where everyone feels empowered to challenge the status quo will often mean the difference between success and failure. 

      Creating a culture of innovation is hard, and it doesn’t happen overnight.  But there are tried-and-true approaches that will help leaders at all levels of an organization foster the right environment and overcome obstacles to successful transformation. Whether you are new to your role as a leader, or you’ve been tasked to steward significant change in your organization, the principles and strategies discussed in this session will help you inspire those around you and move collectively toward realization of a shared vision.

      • Examine the role that process and people play in developing a culture of innovation;
      • Develop a vision statement that is inspiring and actionable;

      Unit Four: Difficult Conversations (Challenge the Process)

      "Challenge the Process" is essential for leaders to keep organizations moving and growing. It’s thinking critically about how your organization operates, celebrating what’s working well, and recognizing what needs to be changed. This can be difficult. Every challenge confronts someone’s great idea. Challenging the process requires knowing how to hold difficult conversations.

      In this section, participants will learn about emotional intelligence and how they can frame conversations in a way that promotes transparency through authenticity. This leads us to lead in a healthy, positive way resulting in leadership growth and organizational development.

      Following this session, you will be able to:

      • Explore "challenging the process" leadership behaviors;
      • Define emotional intelligence and understand how it can impact the ability to lead;
      • Examine how transparency leads to greater organizational outcomes; and
      • Develop communication skills to approach difficult conversations with authenticity and respect.

      Unit Five: Cultivating High-Potential Employees (Enable Others to Act)

      An effective leader fosters collaboration and builds spirited teams.  By enabling others to act, your team is not dependent on you but rather a good representation of you. Leaders use their talents to the fullest developing a team that is built on trust and mutual respect through open communication channels. In doing this, leaders facilitate greater success for their teams.

      Develop a collaborative approach and style to elicit a highly engaged, participatory, and communicative team environment, which is paramount to every leader’s success. Through scenarios, discussions, and self-reflection, explore strategies to enable others to act—even when it doesn’t seem easy or isn’t the natural default.

      Following this session, you will be able to:

      • Maximize employee potential through collaboration to get the best out of others and optimize talent development for positive organizational outcomes;
      • Identify cues and actions that will support development of your circle of trust;
      • Build an arsenal of techniques to gain buy-in and align expectations; and
      • Explore methods to include others and solicit input under varying circumstances.

      Unit Six: Celebrating Wins (Encourage the Heart)

      The verb "team" means to come together as one in pursuit of a common goal. As leaders, it is imperative to recognize both the collective win and individual wins to demonstrate how efforts impact a shared vision. Recognition ignites constituent engagement, motivation, and innovation. Effective leadership entails setting intentionality behind recognition and being self-aware of one’s own threshold related to empathy, respect, and vulnerability. 

      Following this program, you will be able to:

      • Identify leadership behaviors contributing to increased employee engagement;
      • Explore strategies for recognizing the efforts and contributions of the collective and the individual;
      • Develop a multiplier mindset to mitigate challenges; and 
      • Examine opportunities for continued development related to self-awareness.
