  • Transforming the Trajectory

  • Summary

Men of Color have historically been underrepresented in career services, and university relations and recruiting. The focus of this presentation will be to discuss the challenges of navigating our field for those professionals who identify within this population. A working definition of diversity along with a rationale for its relevance within these professional sectors will be expressed. Participants will engage in discussion to identify specific challenges and resiliency behaviors that have proven to be beneficial for career progression. Presenters will also share their unique growth and advancement tracks spanning various career functions across the country. Lastly, the conversation will also focus on ways to elevate this topic of conversation with the hope of formalizing future mentorship opportunities for black males. An opportunity exists to develop a specialized arm of the NACE Mentoring Program with a specific focus on formally connecting black males new to the field of career services and university relations and recruiting.
