• Summary

  Companies and universities alike still have much work to do to better support students and alumni with multiple, historically marginalized identities. Using an intersectional lens, this training will provide an overview of the specific challenges this population has experienced in occupational attainment, onboarding, and developing person-organization fit. Additionally, policies and practices that address these challenges will be shared.

  Following this program, you will be able to:

  • Identify specific challenges job seekers with more than one historically marginalized identity experience;
  • Gain strategies to create inclusive and accessible resources into recruitment and programing; and
  • Strengthen awareness of biases and stigmas that exist in the recruitment and onboarding processes.

  Lesli Somerset Talley , Associate Director, Office of Career Development, Chatham University

  Dr. Lesli Somerset Talley has always had a passion for helping people feel confident in their abilities. Lesli holds a bachelor of science degree in psychology and a master's degree in student affairs in higher education from Slippery Rock University. She earned her Ph.D. in instructional management and leadership at Robert Morris University, with her research focusing in on career development, intersectionality, and workplace inclusion. She currently serves as the Associate Director of Career Development at Chatham University. In this role, she works closely with employer partners and manages the strategic pieces of the internship program. Her expertise centers around providing consultations in the areas of career planning, personal branding, and finding occupational fit. She approaches her work with an equity-minded lens and provides training around work-place diversity and inclusion best practices. In addition to her work at Chatham, Lesli founded Salty Careers, an independent business where she helps her clients gain the confidence and skills to navigate the workforce as well as offering equity and inclusion training for organizations and departments. Lesli also co-owns a real estate investing and development business with her husband. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and discovering Pittsburgh’s foodie scene.
