  Join NACE Executive Director Shawn VanDerziel to explore the latest updates on what is happening in higher education and recruiting. Shawn shares real-time data gathered through NACE quick polls and discusses the implications with insightful guests around a range of topics.

  This meet up explores the impact of COVID-19 on staffing and budgets.  Results from the NACE quick poll provide an initial picture of the extent to which member budgets and staffing have changed.  Guest speakers Kathleen Powell, William & Mary, and Stephanie Pallante, CIGNA, provide insights about strategies for leverage existing resources to meet your goals and positioning your operation to demonstrate the value it brings to your institution/organization.

  Shawn VanDerziel , President & Chief Executive Officer, NACE

  As president and chief executive officer of the National Association of Colleges and Employers, Shawn VanDerziel leads the association of 16,000 college career services professionals, university relations and recruiting professionals, and business solution providers that serve the community. As a leading voice on the employment of the college educated and advocate for equitable outcomes for all students, VanDerziel is featured regularly as an industry expert and is a sought-after speaker on a range of topics, including internships, hiring, career readiness, and trends in the workforce and college job market. Prior to joining the NACE staff, VanDerziel was with the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago for 23 years, where he most recently served as chief human resources officer and as chief of staff. His earlier roles included corporate recruiting with Norrell Corporation and a position in higher education as associate director of student enrollment at National Louis University.

  

  Kathleen Powell , Chief Career Officer, William & Mary

  As the Chief Career Officer, Kathleen Powell has more than 30 years of progressive experience in higher education career services. She is an effective leader and creative programmer. She is recognized nationally and internationally for her leadership, strategic visioning, and external review practices.  Dedicated to strategic visioning and management, collaborative partnerships, and faculty engagement, Powell also has a commanding understanding of career development, student development, and organizational and leadership theories. Powell has authored chapters in several different publications and served as an academic advisor and adjunct faculty member teaching career planning, leadership development, and communication. Powell served NACE as president, through multiple committee engagements, and as the faculty lead for strategic planning sessions at the Management Leadership Institute and a facilitator for the Executive Leadership Summit.  She is a Kauffman Award winner and a member of the Academy of Fellows. In addition, Powell is a prolific presenter with more than 45 competitively selected presentations, both nationally and internationally.

  

  Stephanie Pallante , Early Careers Recruitment Leader, The Cigna Group

  As a seasoned talent acquisition leader, Stephanie Pallante has a successful history of leading teams in the development and implementation of talent acquisition strategies for experienced hires, new graduates, and diversity initiatives across multiple industries. While she has broad experience, Pallante’s “heart” is in the early careers space, where she finds great satisfaction in helping collegiate students explore career paths as interns, kick start their professional careers post-graduation, and continue to grow and advance. Pallante currently leads University Relations & Early Careers Recruiting for Cigna, with responsibility for developing the early career talent strategies necessary to support Cigna's nine undergraduate Leadership Development Programs. She also oversees the company’s collegiate hiring initiatives for all enterprise internship opportunities. Before joining Cigna in 2018, Pallante served as the Early Career Recruitment and Programs Leader for Aramark, where she was instrumental in establishing an enterprise-wide recruitment strategy that identified collegiate talent for Aramark’s management training program. Pallante has also held recruitment leadership roles at PPD, Merck, GlaxoSmithKline, and Unisys. As an active member of NACE for more than 25 years, Pallante’s volunteer service has included Vice President & Director – Employer, along with numerous strategic committees and task forces, such as Strategic Positioning of Career Services, Career Readiness Competencies, Conference Committee, Communities of Practice, and Honors & Awards to name a few.
