• Summary

  Are you seeking new methods by which to enhance the global experience on your campus or within your organization? This session will explain how the University of Minnesota began promoting and enhancing the competency development of global students before, during, and after their study abroad programs. Presenters will share assessment data, tools, and research that has been compiled from existing and current programs.

  Following this program, you will be able to:

  • Identify and define the NACE career competencies and describe their significance as they relate to this program;
  • Analyze various models implemented and their implications for attendees at their organizations or institutions; and
  • Adapt best practices and processes for promoting and enhancing students’ global readiness.

  Christine Anderson , Academic Director, University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

  Christine Anderson has worked in the field of education abroad for 20 plus years. She is the academic director at the University of Minnesota’s Learning Abroad Center (LAC). She has researched and published on intercultural learning on short-term study abroad programs, the impact of education abroad on career competency development, and how an education abroad experience can increase resilience. She has presented at multiple conferences. She administers and teaches students on LAC’s online, culture learning and career development course, “Global Identity: Connecting Your International Experience to Your Future”. She has a Ph.D. in comparative international development education.

  

  Kimberly Hindbjorgen , Assistant Director, Curriculum/Career Integration, University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

  Kimberly (Kim) Hindbjorgen is the assistant director of curriculum and career integration at the University of Minnesota, where she provides leadership, consultation, and expertise to translate and assist in identifying curriculum and experiential needs for students in relation to international education. She also chairs the Learning Abroad Center Career Integration Partnership Group and the Abroad Network whose focus is on the sharing of best practices to foster communication and collaboration across campus. She has worked in higher education for more than 25 years and has contributed to articles and workshops relating to education abroad. She received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Minnesota.
