• Summary

  Through this NACE Town Hall, you will gain insight and updates on the preemptive measures the association and its member organizations are taking regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19).

  During this virtual meeting, NACE leaders and members will discuss Engaging Students Virtually During COVID-19.

  Following this program, you will be able to:

  • Provide data-supported updates about the current situation.
  • Articulate evolving, near-term action plans.
  • Gain ideas and insight from NACE leaders and members; and
  • Identify strategies that can be implemented within your institution or organization.

  Katharine Brooks , Executive Director, Career Center, [ARCHIVES]

  Katharine Brooks directs the Career Center at Vanderbilt University. She has directed career centers at Wake Forest University, The University of Texas at Austin, and Dickinson College. A board-certified counselor and coach, she is the author of several career books including "What Color is Your Parachute For College," "What Color is Your Parachute 2021," "You Majored in What?," and "Picture Your Career," and also writes a blog for Psychology Today. She has been twice designated a “Top Ten Most Visionary Leader in Career Services” by CSO Research and is a recipient of the NACE Kauffman Award.

  

  Shawn VanDerziel , President & Chief Executive Officer, NACE

  As president and chief executive officer of the National Association of Colleges and Employers, Shawn VanDerziel leads the association of 16,000 college career services professionals, university relations and recruiting professionals, and business solution providers that serve the community. As a leading voice on the employment of the college educated and advocate for equitable outcomes for all students, VanDerziel is featured regularly as an industry expert and is a sought-after speaker on a range of topics, including internships, hiring, career readiness, and trends in the workforce and college job market. Prior to joining the NACE staff, VanDerziel was with the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago for 23 years, where he most recently served as chief human resources officer and as chief of staff. His earlier roles included corporate recruiting with Norrell Corporation and a position in higher education as associate director of student enrollment at National Louis University.

  Cheryl Hicks , Sr. Associate, Isaacson, Miller

  Cheryl Hicks is an associate director of diversity and inclusion programming in the Office of Personal & Career Development at Wake Forest University (WFU). In this role, she serves as a liaison between the on-campus departments of the Intercultural Center and Magnolia Scholars. Hicks leads planning of the signature event "Diversity Matters" and other diversity programs, including "The Coach Is In" and "Black Professionals Forum." She has represented WFU by presenting on diversity and inclusion topics at several industry conferences. Hicks currently serves on the SoACE Board as Director of College Knowledge Groups and past Director of Diversity and Inclusion, past executive board member for NCACE, and a member of the People of Color Affinity Group for NACE. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&M University and a master's degree in higher education administration from Northeastern University. This is her sixth academic year at Wake Forest University.
