A judge signs the new overtime pay rule into law.

On Wednesday, May 18, 2016, the White House announced the new rule for overtime pay.

Under the rule proposed by the Department of Labor (DOL) last summer, management, administrative, and professional employees earning less than $47,476 will be eligible for overtime pay when they work more than 40 hours a week. That’s lower than the $50,400 salary threshold DOL originally proposed, but still double the current threshold of $23,660.

The rule goes into effect December 1, 2016. For more information, see the resources provided by the DOL Wage and Hour Division.
