A Massachusetts U.S. District Court judge has ruled that Harvard University’s admissions process does not discriminate against Asian-American applicants. The case brought by Students for Fair Admissions alleged that Harvard’s admissions process disadvantaged Asian-American students.

Arguing that race is just one of the factors it uses during its admissions process, Harvard denied that it discriminates against Asian-Americans. U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs ruled that Harvard’s use of race in this regard is legal because diversity is a legitimate goal.

It is likely that this decision will be appealed.
