    Spotlight for Career Services Professionals

Outside of vacation days—which vary by years of service—career services practitioners received an average of 12 paid holidays and nine other days off last year, according to results of NACE’s 2016-17 Career Services Compensation Report.

The average number of paid holidays was more or less the standard across the different types of schools. (See Figure 1.) However, the average of “other” days off ranged from 12 at larger master’s colleges and universities to five at medium master’s colleges and universities. (See Figure 2.)

On average, employees earned 16 days of vacation after one year of employment, 17 days after three years, 20 days after five years, and 22 days after 10 years. These figures varied both between different types of schools and within different types, indicating that policies regarding tenure-based vacation accruement are institution-specific.

NACE’s 2016-17 Career Services Compensation Report survey was conducted among NACE college members from September 21, 2016, until January 20, 2017. It was sent to 1,900 institutions; responses were received from 729 member institutions—a 38.4 percent response rate. Highlights from the 2016-17 Career Services Compensation Report are available on NACEWeb. Participating members can access the full report through MyNACE.
